Soccer Six legend Frank McAvennie contacted his Accies mates and mixed gender Games of History were finally born in Scotland. Fittingly, COP26 – the most important climate change meeting in history – was taking place in Glasgow and Professor Maslin was to receive the trophy for his Scotland team from Miss Scotland Claudia Todd. Rangers legends Alex Rae and Marvin Andrews with Jose Quitongo were the team spine but it was musician Nathan Evans that starred with 4 goals in a 5-3 win. Frank McAvennie managed the opponents and had assembled ex-pros that included John Hartson, Derek Ferguson, Tom Boyd and Mark Wilson. While the serious politics took place across the city Labour leader Anas Sarwar and Tory leader Douglas Ross brought humour to proceedings as midfielder Sarwar was booked 3 times by UEFA qualified referee Ross!
Some of the best skills came from the ladies as ex Scotland internationals Mandy Burns, Rhonda Jones, Stacey Cook and Suzanne Winters -with over 300 international caps between them – all shone in both games. The ladies silverware was to be lifted by Bev Lyons, Jane Parks and Horse McDonald, narrowly beating the Sky Blues captained by the super competitive Shereen Cutkelvin 2-1 before the stars hit the VIP bar to be entertained by Craig Eddie.
